The purpose of this article is to explain the following:
-
What is your transmission dashboard and where can it be found?
-
What types of transmission failures might I see?
What is your transmission dashboard and where can it be found?
Your payroll transmission dashboard is your real-time display of all incoming and outgoing changes between Employee Navigator and the payroll provider.
- You can locate it by going to your Payroll tab in Employee Navigator --> 'View Transmissions'
- Once you're taken to the Transmission Dashboard, EN will default to display just errors from the last 30 days for you
What types of transmission failures might I see?
You can "enter" the error by clicking the magnifying icon next to the failure you'd like to view and checking the 'Received' content of the transmission at the bottom in the Message section.
Deduction failures
Invalid deduction code
Why did this fail: The deduction code mapped into Employee Navigator is invalid or otherwise does not exist in Payroll
-
- The message will vary by partner, but will indicate in some way that "This code does not exist in the payroll partner's system"
Examples of the message
- Paylocity
- Paychex
- Paycor
- ADP WorkForce Now
- ADP RUN
How to solve
- Go into each applicable Payroll Group --> Plan --> Edit icon --> Fix the deduction code to match the correct value that truly exists in payroll.
-
Once saved, this will prompt Employee Navigator to auto-send the corrected code and amounts to Payroll to ensure the systems are in sync with one another.
- All original errors can be ignored as the deductions are now updated in payroll.
Payroll is misconfigured and will not accept data from Employee Navigator
Why did this fail: Payroll has a setting enabled or missing, which is preventing them from taking data from us.
-
- The most common reasons are below, mainly around ADP and isolved integrations where this issue is frequent.
Examples of these messages
- ADP WorkForce Now
How to solve
- This failure happened because the deduction code(s) in question are linked to ADP Benefit Plans. ADP will not take deductions from us when they are linked, as ADP is expecting deduction data to come from its own internal benefits administration tool.
- Contact Payroll@employeenavigator.com and we will provide detailed instructions for the HR Admin to share with ADP's Service team on how to unlink these codes, which will allow our system to update payroll with deductions.
- isolved
How to solve
- This failure happened because the deduction code(s) in question are missing a checkbox called "Allow Employee Value" in isolved that allows their system to accept deduction data from us.
- The HR Admin needs to go to their isolved homepage --> Payroll --> Deductions --> Click on the code in question --> Find 'Client Parameters' --> Check off the box for "Allow Employee Value"
- Once this is completed, contact Payroll@employeenavigator.com and we can re-send all of the original failures for you.
The partner's API was down or unavailable for a brief period
Why did this fail: The partner's API may have dropped the call or been unavailable when Employee Navigator was trying to access their system to insert or retrieve a change.
Examples of these messages
How to solve: Contact Payroll@employeenavigator.com and we will retry all of these in bulk for you.
The deduction amount sending to ADP Workforce Now is $0
Why did this fail: ADP WorkForce Now does not accept $0 deduction amounts from partners.
Examples of this message
How to resolve: This can typically be ignored as you likely don't need $0 deductions in payroll anyways. However, if this employee was moving from a per pay cost above $0 down to a $0 amount, then HR will need to manually remove this deduction from ADP as they will not allow us to insert this amount.

Can you put the articles and screenshots for all the payroll integration monitoring instructions in a pdf document we can provide our clients? If I copy and paste into word it will not bring in the screenshots. Would be great to have something to provide them for reference.
I concur
Hi!
We are currently wrapping up our Integration Management guide with this type of data included. Once it is completed it will be posted to our Support site and our brokers will be notified. It will also be included on all closeout emails moving forward once an integration goes Live.
Fantastic, thanks Ryan!!!!
Good evening, as an update: This guide is now completed and will be included on all closeout emails moving forward once an integration goes Live.
It is also posted in our article: 'Our post-integration guide for HR and Brokers'
We love feedback so please send it our way!
If a deduction fails to sync, how do you retransmit the data?
Hi Kristen!
There are two scenarios in this case:
1. If the deduction transmission fails for the reason of, "Deduction code mapped into EN was incorrect and does not exist in payroll", then once the broker or HR user edits the code to correct it, EN auto-sends all deductions associated with that specific payroll group's plan to ensure EN/Payroll are in sync.
2. If the deduction transmission fails for the reason of, "Partner's API was down or unavailable", then my team has a process to retry all of these failure types in bulk each Friday to ensure we are re-attempting to insert them.
Hello!
Do I need to have an HR User's "Set Payroll" Access Control enabled to allow them to view transmissions? I've noticed that the "View Transmissions" link has not been visible for HR Users I've worked with in the past.
